In Beilen and Assen, the manhole covers came loose after a large amount of precipitation. According to Weeronline, 39.8 millimeters of rain fell in that area. For comparison: on average, 80 millimeters of rain falls in the entire month of July.
Several trees have also been blown over and there are loose branches on the roads. Furthermore, the power was briefly out in parts of Beilen, writes RTV Drenthe.

In addition to the heavy showers, heavy gusts of wind were measured in some places. For example, there was a gust of wind of 79 kilometers per hour in Maastricht and one of 75 kilometers per hour in Nieuw Beerta in Groningen. Several trees have also been blown over in that area.
Festival in Limburg temporarily suspended
Severe weather also caused nuisance in South Limburg. The Federation Festival in Ubachsberg was therefore temporarily suspended. At that time there were approximately ten thousand visitors present. The organization requested them to leave the site temporarily. The shooting associations were allowed to stay.
Shooting associations come together at the festival every year. In the Middle Ages, a shooting association was a group of citizens who protected and defended their city. Nowadays, they are mainly ceremonial associations that organize parties.
In the Achterhoek, the organizers of the Zwarte Cross festival were also preparing for heavy showers on Sunday. They called on visitors with a camping ticket to fold up large tents. Campers also had to tighten the guy lines of their tents properly.
On Sunday, code yellow was in effect throughout the country between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM. The thunderstorms moved across the country from the southwest in the afternoon and evening. Code yellow for showers is issued if there is a chance of nuisance and damage around and in the house, such as flooded basements and gardens.
