Hato goes to the European Championship earlier to the Dutch Juniors and misses qualifying match with Malta

Jorrel Hato will join the Young Oranje squad for the European Championship in Slovakia as early as Sunday. The defender was supposed to be with the Dutch national team until Tuesday, but national coach Ronald Koeman is letting him leave for the youth team earlier.

The nineteen-year-old Hato was still part of Oranje’s match selection for the World Cup qualifying match against Finland (0-2 victory) on Saturday evening, but did not take action. Nathan Aké started as left back and Micky van de Ven came into the team as a replacement.

Young Oranje coach Michael Reiziger previously hinted that Hato would probably join his selection after Finland away. Koeman confirmed this after the match against Finland. The national coach is not calling up a replacement.

As a result, Hato will miss the Dutch national team’s qualifying match against Malta on Tuesday evening. The Ajax defender will travel with Oranje to Schiphol on Sunday, where he will later in the day join the Young Oranje squad that flies to Slovakia.

Reiziger’s team opens the final tournament in Slovakia on Thursday against Young Finland. Group matches with Young Denmark (June 15) and Young Ukraine (June 18) will follow later. The tournament lasts until June 28.
