Lewis Hamilton is not happy with the intervention of motorsport federation FIA to counteract the flexing front wings. Since this weekend, the front wings are being checked more strictly, but so far little has changed in the ranking.
Due to the stricter checks, the Formula 1 teams had to massively adjust the front wing, even if they complied with the previous regulations. That cost – much to Hamilton’s displeasure – not only a lot of energy, but also a lot of time.
“What a waste of money that was,” Hamilton told Motosport.com after qualifying in Barcelona. Hamilton set the fifth time in it.
Little had changed in the top, as Max Verstappen had to tolerate the McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris ahead of him. The difference between Verstappen and the competition was significant again.
“Everyone had to make new wings and spend money to get this done, but it literally didn’t change anything,” Hamilton fumed. “It makes no sense, but oh well. It is what it is and we just move on.”
The race in Barcelona starts on Sunday at 3:00 PM. In Catalonia, Hamilton hopes to finish on the podium again in a main race. He last succeeded in Las Vegas last year – then still in the service of Mercedes.
