Isack Hadjar was very happy on Saturday after he had qualified for the Grand Prix of the Netherlands as fourth. The young Frenchman even found his round his best round so far in Formula 1.
“I am very happy,” the twenty -year -old Hadjar beamed in the Paddock of Circuit Zandvoort. “Finally I put down a round that I am really happy with. The car reacted exactly as I wanted. Maybe we were lucky with a gust of wind, we still have to see that in the data. But it was a great round anyway.”
Hadjar, a debutant at Racing Bulls in Formula 1 this year, has impressed the entire year, but was somewhat invisible in the last few races for the summer break. His impressive qualification in Zandvoort gives him a place on the second start row, in addition to number three Max Verstappen.
“It was probably my best round of the year,” continued Hadjar, who is also a candidate to become a teammate of Verstappen at Red Bull next year. “The fact that it happens here is extra beautiful, because this is really a difficult circuit. I gave everything, especially in that last corner. There I grabbed another tenth.”
Hadjar does not think he can attack Verstappen
While Hadjar was happy to praise herself with a gust of wind, other drivers, such as Lando Norris, were complaining about that. Hadjar acknowledged that the circumstances at the seaside resort were difficult.
“To be honest, it’s a terrible feeling if you are in the car and get such a gust of wind. You can just lose two tenths in one corner. Very annoying, so sometimes you have to be lucky.”
Despite his third starting place, Hadjar does not dare to dream out loud from a stage. He also does not assume that he can attack Verstappen at the start. “He starts on the clean side of the grid and usually has good starts. So honestly, I rather expect him to catch up with someone than I can threaten him.”
Until Saturday was fifth place at the Grand Prix of Monaco Hadjar’s best qualifying result. Oscar Piastri starts on Sunday from Poleposition on the Grand Prix of the Netherlands. Lando Norris completes the second row. The lights in Zandvoort go out at 3 p.m.
