Griekspoor meets American Brooksby on Wimbledon, women avoid toppers

Tallon Griekspoor will face American Jenson Brooksby in the first round of Wimbledon. Arantxa Rus and Suzan Lamens will both face an unseeded player from the United States.

Griekspoor is seeded 31st in London. If he defeats Brooksby (ATP-149), he may play Brazilian teenage sensation João Fonseca, who is making his breakthrough this year, in the second round.

Botic van de Zandschulp, ranked 92nd in the world, will face Italian Matteo Arnaldi (ATP-44) in the opening round. Jesper de Jong is twelve places lower than Van de Zandschulp and will face Christopher Eubanks (ATP-131). The American reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon two years ago.

In the women’s tournament, Rus was drawn against American Caroline Dolehide, the world number 66. Rus is 93rd. Lamens (WTA-68) also faces a player from the United States: Iva Jovic, the world number 89.

If Rus wins, she may face defending champion Barbora Krejcíková from the Czech Republic. Wimbledon starts on Monday.

Draw of world top players

Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion in the men’s singles, is drawn against Italian Fabio Fognini in the opening round. The top-seeded Italian Jannik Sinner will face compatriot Luca Nardi, and Novak Djokovic will meet Alexandre Muller from France.

In the women’s singles, top seed Aryna Sabalenka will face Carson Branstine from Canada, and Coco Gauff, the number two seed, will face Dayana Yastremska from Ukraine.
