Tallon Griekspoor was self -critical after his early elimination at Wimbledon. Two days after his title on Mallorca, the leader of Dutch tennis was not up to the American Jenson Brooksby.
“This is a scandalous game on my part. It is one of my worst performances ever,” were the harsh words of Griekspoor afterwards against the NOS . “I have never served as dramatically as today.”
Griekspoor had refueled a lot of confidence for Wimbledon on Saturday by winning the grass tournament in Mallorca, but nothing turned out to be true. “It is the reality of tennis life. From euphoria to a very ugly defeat,” the tennis player summarized.
“I can start calling a lot of things now, but I will not do that. On Sunday I won a title. Did I play tennis there? No. Have I served well there? Yes. I have served dramatically now. My opponent did much better than me.”
Griekspoor does not know the defeat for the short preparation time for Wimbledon. “I have lost little energy due to the journey. Physically, the problem was not today, but the tennis. My first service rate was not over 50 percent and then you make it difficult for yourself.”
It was striking that Griekspoor scolded a lot during his match against Brooksby. Yet he did not see his offday at Wimbledon coming. “It has happened to me more often in Wimbledon in the past. I have played few good matches here, even though it can be one of my best Grand Slams.”
