Tallon Griekspoor will face American Marcos Giron in the first round of Roland Garros, the draw revealed on Thursday. Suzan Lamens will face American Ashlyn Krueger in her Roland Garros debut.
Griekspoor is unseeded at Roland Garros as the world number 34. With Giron, the best Dutch tennis player will meet the number 43 in the world. If the 28-year-old from North Holland reaches the second round, he will face Canadian Gabriel Diallo or Francisco Cerundolo (ATP-18) from Argentina.
Lamens will meet Krueger, the number 37 in the world. Lamens is the highest-ranked Dutch tennis player in 67th place.
Lamens and Krueger have faced each other once before on the WTA Tour. Then Krueger was too strong for the Dutch in two sets: 7-5 and 6-0. In the second round, Lamens may face a duel with Russian top talent Mirra Andreeva, the number six in the world.
De Jong Possible Against Zverev
Botic van de Zandschulp also faces a meeting with an American. The world number 89 will meet wildcard holder Emilio Nava (ATP-138). Van de Zandschulp did not make it past the first round last year. If he succeeds this year, he may meet the Dane Holger Rune (ATP-10).
Jesper de Jong, the number two in the Netherlands, will meet Italian Francesco Passaro (ATP-140). The 24-year-old from Hoofddorp is 53 places higher in the world ranking. In the second round, a duel with the German Alexander Zverev, the number three in the world, may be waiting.
Arantxa Rus (WTA-99) will meet the Colombian Camila Osorio, number 55 in the world. If the 34-year-old Rus reaches the second round, like last year, she will face the Danish Clara Tauson (WTA-22) or Magda Linette from Poland (WTA-33).
Tim van Rijthoven, Gijs Brouwer, Guy den Ouden, Anouk Koevermans and Arianne Hartono were eliminated earlier this week in the qualifying tournament.
