Goalkeeper Pepe Reina (42) puts the point after 26 seasons behind impressive career

Pepe Reina is ending his long career after this season. The 42-year-old goalkeeper of Serie A club Como looks back with satisfaction on his time at various top clubs.

“I consider myself lucky with everything I have experienced, but everything comes to an end,” Reina tells Movistar. “I have the feeling that I can no longer offer anything to football from my current position.”

Reina has played a total of 26 seasons of professional football. The Spaniard started in the youth academy of FC Barcelona. Later he played for Villarreal, Liverpool, Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Aston Villa, and Lazio.

The veteran played the longest at Liverpool (2005-2013). With the English top club, he won the League Cup, the FA Cup, the English Super Cup, and the European Super Cup. In 2015, he won the national title with Bayern.

Reina played a total of 36 matches for Spain. He became European champion (2008 and 2012) and world champion (2010) with the national team. Spain won the 2010 World Cup final 1-0 against the Netherlands.

Last summer, Reina joined Como, coached by Cesc Fàbregas, on a free transfer. The goalkeeper was often in the starting lineup in the first half of the season, but has mainly been a reserve after the turn of the year. Reina may get playing time in the last league match against Internazionale on Friday.
