Santiago Giménez is happy that he has put an end to his goal dry at AC Milan on Tuesday. The striker was associated with a transfer last summer, but the Mexican said he never thought of a departure.
Giménez made the opening goal in the Coppa Italia game with Lecce (3-0). The former Feyenoorder tapped the ball in after a cross from Davide Bartesaghi. It was his first goal of the season in six duels from AC Milan.
“A striker has to score goals,” the 24-year-old Giménez acknowledged Sport Mediaset . “In the past games I have had opportunities to score, but did not go into the ball. But after this goal I hope that many more goals will follow soon.”
Giménez was linked to a departure from Milan in the summer. The striker came over from Feyenoord in February for around 35 million euros, but could not convince yet. He has so far on seven goals and four assists in 25 duels for the Italian top club.
“As a child I dreamed of playing for AC Milan. I want to stay here. I play in the team of my dreams. I never thought I would leave the club,” said Giménez, who is the basic player among the new coach Massimiliano Allegri.
AC Milan plays against Lazio in the next cup round. The team of Allegri is in third place in the Serie A after four games. Milan plays in -house against leader and reigning champion Napoli on Sunday.
