Gijs Brouwer

Gijs Brouwer and Arianne Hartono failed to reach the main tournament of Roland Garros on Tuesday. The Dutch tennis players were defeated in two sets. Earlier, Tim van Rijthoven and Guy den Ouden were already eliminated.

The 29-year-old Hartono had to acknowledge her superior in the Italian Nuria Brancaccio: 4-6 and 3-6. Contemporary Brouwer lost in two sets to the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili: 6-3 and 6-2. Van Rijthoven and Den Ouden were already eliminated on Monday.

Hartono (WTA-178) has never managed to reach the main tournament in Paris. The Groningen native participated in the qualifying tournament a total of four times.

Brouwer is also still waiting for his Roland Garros debut. The tennis player from Venhuizen played his first match in Paris since February. He has been struggling with a shoulder injury in recent months, which made it difficult for him to serve.

Anouk Koevermans is the only Dutch player who still has a chance of a place in the main tournament. The Brabantse number 178 in the world will play later today against the Russian Anastasia Zakharova, who is 69 places higher on the WTA ranking.

Five Dutch players have been directly admitted to the main draw. Among the men, Tallon Griekspoor, Botic van de Zandschulp and Jesper de Jong will make their appearance. The latter is directly admitted to the main tournament of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. Suzan Lamens and Arantxa Rus will participate among the women.
