From Dijke to Rettersen on World Championship Judo, Van Dijk and De Voogd eliminated

Two-time European champion Sanne van Dijke is still in the race for a bronze medal at the World Judo Championships in Hungary, despite a defeat in the quarter-finals. Mark van Dijk and Margit de Voogd were eliminated early on Tuesday.

Van Dijk fell behind with a yuko, fought to the end, but failed to score. He had a bye in the first round and won in the second round against the Moroccan Achraf Moutii. After that, the Frenchman Maxime-Gaƫl Ngayap Hambou proved too strong.

De Voogd was eliminated in the second round in the class up to 70 kilograms. The 27-year-old from South Holland seemed to be getting the match against Tais Pina under her control, but she was surprised after a few seconds in extra time (golden score) by a yuko from the Portuguese.

De Voogd started her tournament with a win against the Austrian Elena Dengg. In February, she won bronze at the Grand Slam in Paris.

Van Dijke to the repechage

Two-time European champion Sanne van Dijke reached the third round in the same class after a hard-fought victory over the Brazilian Luana Carvalho. The next opponent, Aina Laura Rasoanaivo Razafy from Madagascar, was also defeated.

But in the quarter-finals, Van Dijke lost to the Australian Aoife Coughlan. The world title is out of sight for the Brabantse, but she can still win a bronze medal. For that, she must first win against the French Margaux Pinot in the repechage round.
