Frits Spits will present the Groot Dictee der Nederlandse Taal (Great Dutch Dictation) for the eighth and final time in November. The 77-year-old radio host recently announced that he is retiring from radio after 52 years.
The dictation has only been available on the radio since 2017. Television broadcasts ceased in 2016 due to low viewership. Spits, known as a fervent ambassador of the Dutch language, has spoken out in the past in favor of a return of the program to television.
Twenty famous Dutch people participate in the annual dictation, along with twenty listeners of Spits’ program De Taalstaat . This year, linguist and cabaret artist Wim DaniĆ«ls wrote the text, which will be read by Gerdi Verbeet.
The Great Dictation of the Dutch Language will be on November 22 and will be broadcast from the library in Deurne.
