Frimpong thanks Slot after transfer: 'Heard good stories from Feyenoord boys'

Jeremie Frimpong is eager to join Liverpool. The 24-year-old wing-back, arriving from Bayer Leverkusen, was presented by his new club on Friday and speaks enthusiastically to the club’s channels.

“I’m playing for Liverpool, what more can I say?”, Frimpong says on Liverpool’s website. “When Liverpool showed interest, it was of course a no-brainer for me. I told my agents: ‘I don’t care what you do, make sure you get this done.'”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot played an important role in the realization of the transfer, according to Frimpong. “I had good conversations with him and I can’t wait to work with him,” says Frimpong.

“With the Dutch national team, I have already heard good stories about him from the Feyenoord guys. ‘He is the best trainer I have ever had’, that kind of thing.”

The Liverpool fans have also already made a big impression on Frimpong. In November, he played a Champions League match at Anfield with Bayer Leverkusen. The Germans lost that match 4-0, but Frimpong was deeply impressed by the atmosphere.

“I think this is the best stadium I have played in with Bayer Leverkusen,” says the Amsterdam native. “The atmosphere, the fans, but also the team: the total package is great.”

Frimpong had earlier opportunity for transfer to Liverpool

As a youth player, Frimpong already had the opportunity to go to Liverpool. “That was also a no-brainer, but it didn’t go through then because of travel time and that kind of thing. So I had to take a different path then,” he refers to his years in the youth academy of Manchester City. “But look at me now.”

Frimpong is the first newcomer to Liverpool this transfer period, which, under the leadership of Slot, won its first national title since 2020. He is to be the successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has since completed his transfer to Real Madrid.

After Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch, Frimpong will be the fourth Dutchman in Slot’s selection.
