Freek Rikkerink will commemorate his wife Suzan’s birthday on Sunday, as she turns 33. “My dearest, strong, talented, brave, beautiful, and pregnant wife has her birthday today,” the singer writes alongside a photo of them together.
The photo shows Suzan’s pregnant belly. “33 years old, the year we finally get to become parents, our greatest wish. In recent weeks, I’ve once again realized what unconditional love means,” Rikkerink writes.
Last month, the duo announced that the singer has metastatic lung cancer and will not recover. At the same time, they announced that they are expecting their first child. Rikkerink has since started life-extending medication.
Initially, Suzan & Freek canceled all upcoming performances, but last week the duo announced that they will still perform at a few festivals this summer.
Suzan & Freek broke through in 2019 with the hit single Als Het Avond Is (If It Is Evening). Since then, they have scored major hits with songs such as Blauwe Dag (Blue Day), De Overkant (The Other Side), and Slapeloosheid (Sleeplessness). Earlier this month, the new single Batterij (Battery) was released. In 2022, they won the Edison for best album with Dromen In Kleur (Dreams In Color).
The couple has been together for eighteen years. They got married in late 2023.
