Four students from Utrecht are being prosecuted for distributing Bangalist

Four students from Utrecht are being prosecuted for distributing a so-called “bangalijst” (slut list). The list contained names, photos, and sometimes addresses and phone numbers of female students from the city. The photos were accompanied by sexist comments.

The list circulated on the internet and in group apps in March last year. Women on the list were judged on their appearance in a sexist manner, and information about their sex lives could be read. For example, it said that they “have to wear make-up”, have “big tits”, are “just plain horny” or are “cancer whores”.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) investigated the list. The investigation revealed six male suspects, all of whom are members of student association USC. It was determined that two suspects did not distribute the list. The cases against them have therefore been dismissed.

The other four men are suspected of distributing the slut list. According to the OM, they shared the list with other students. They are suspected of distributing a document with insulting content and will have to answer to the judge.

The slut list was also distributed outside the circle of suspects and made public on the internet and in group apps. The OM investigation has not revealed who is responsible for this.
