Tallon Griekspoor has withdrawn from the Libéma Open on Friday due to an abdominal muscle injury. The former winner of the tournament in Rosmalen was injured during Roland Garros, where he had to retire in the fourth round against Alexander Zverev due to the injury.

Griekspoor sustained the abdominal muscle injury on Monday while warming up for his first fourth round at a Grand Slam. The world number 35 had a scan done then, but nothing was visible yet.

After examination in the Netherlands, the injury turned out to be more serious than expected, and a tear was visible in Griekspoor’s left abdominal muscle, he tells NU.nl on Friday. “I have done everything I can to recover, but after consultation with medical professionals, it is clear that playing next week is not possible,” says Griekspoor.

The 28-year-old Griekspoor won the Libéma Open in 2023, which has since been one of his favorite tennis tournaments. “I am therefore extremely disappointed that I have to withdraw from my home tournament. This tournament has a special place in my heart.”

Botic van de Zandschulp, Jesper de Jong, Suzan Lamens, and Anouk Koevermans will compete in the grass tournament in Rosmalen. In the women’s competition, the Russian Liudmila Samsonova is the defending champion, while the Australian Alex de Minaur is the titleholder in the men’s competition.

The Libéma Open starts on June 7 with the qualifying tournament. The main tournament is scheduled to begin on June 9. The finals on the grass courts of Autotron ‘s-Hertogenbosch will take place on June 15.
