Former television presenter and architectural expert Nico Zwinkels has passed away at the age of 80. Zwinkels became known in the early 1990s as a co-presenter of the popular RTL 4 program Eigen Huis & Tuin (Own Home & Garden).
“On a beautiful summer day, my dearest husband and companion, our caring father, father-in-law, and super proud grandfather has passed away,” reads the obituary that appeared in a local newspaper.
Zwinkels began his television career in the early 1990s as a building technical advisor in the program Je Eigen Huis (Your Own Home), which merged with Flora Magazine in 1993 to form the successful Eigen Huis & Tuin. Together with gardener Rob Verlinden and presenters such as Myrna Goossen and Manuëla Kemp, he gave the Dutch public practical DIY and gardening tips every week.
In 2004, his television career came to an abrupt end after plans for a switch to SBS6 were cancelled due to accusations of sexual harassment. Zwinkels denied the allegations but lost several lawsuits in which he tried to clear his name. After that period, he moved to Spain and returned to the Netherlands fifteen years later.
