Former Arsenal midfielder Partey charged for five rapes

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is accused of five rapes and one sexual assault. The incidents allegedly took place in 2021 and 2022.

According to a police statement, the allegations come from three different women. The police started the investigation in February 2022. That’s when the first report of rape came in.

At the time, Partey was under contract with Arsenal. His contract with the Premier League club expired last Monday. According to English media, both parties were still talking about an extension, but it didn’t materialize.

Despite the ongoing investigation into Partey, Arsenal kept the 32-year-old Partey under contract for years. There was considerable criticism of this. The Ghanaian previously played for Atlético Madrid.

“We know that there will be a lot of public interest in this case, but we want to remind everyone that it is an ongoing investigation and that the defendant has the right to defend himself,” said the Crown Prosecution Service, the British equivalent of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service.

Partey is due to appear in court in Westminster on August 5. He is without a club after leaving Arsenal.
