Daniëlle van de Donk married Australian international Ellie Carpenter just before the European Championship with the Orange Lionesses. The two met at Olympique Lyonnais, where they both play.

The couple shares photos of the wedding day on Instagram. Both wore a white dress. Carpenter writes with the pictures: “I choose you. I will always choose you.”

The 33-year-old Van de Donk has played for the French top club for the past four seasons, where Carpenter has been active since 2020. The couple has been together for about three years.

In an earlier interview with AD, Van de Donk spoke about a possible future in Australia, her wife’s home country. “I think she will continue playing football longer, yes,” she said then. “So I think now: wherever she goes, I go. We are both very easy about that. Australia? Yes, that’s fine too.”

Van de Donk debuted in the Dutch national team in 2010. She won the European Championship with Orange in their own country in 2017 and reached the World Cup final two years later, in which the team lost to the United States.

After the upcoming European Championship in Switzerland, which starts for the Netherlands on July 5 with a match against Wales, the midfielder will end her international career. So far, she has 167 international matches to her name, in which she scored 38 times.
