First local tropical day of the year: 30 degrees in Maastricht

In Maastricht, the first local tropical day of the year was measured on Thursday. The mercury in the Limburg city reached 30 degrees Celsius at the end of the afternoon.

In addition to Maastricht, the temperature also rose to the tropical value of 30 degrees in other places in South Limburg. This was not achieved in the rest of the country: in most places it is 27 to 29 degrees. In De Bilt it was about 27 degrees. Therefore, there is no question of a national tropical day.

On average, the first tropical day of the year now falls on June 8. Last year, the first tropical day was only recorded on June 26. The average number of tropical days varies from one on the Wadden Islands to ten in Limburg. In the center of the country, the average is five days of tropical heat with temperatures of 30 degrees and higher.

On Friday it will be tropical weather in more places, reports Weeronline. Inland, the mercury rises to 30 to 32 degrees, with the highest temperatures in Brabant and Limburg. The coastal areas are cooled by a refreshing sea breeze and have to deal with temperatures of 26 to 29 degrees.

Then cirrus clouds will also pass over the country. These create oppressive heat. The temperature will rise early and the humidity is high. At the end of the day, these circumstances lead to severe thunderstorms, which move from the south over the western half of the country. The KNMI has issued code yellow for Friday evening due to severe thunderstorms with gusts of wind in the southwest.
