Fire on roof Provinciehuis Zuid-Holland in The Hague under control

In the provincial house of South Holland in The Hague, a fire broke out on Wednesday. The fire originated on the roof, according to a spokesperson for the security region to NU.nl. The entire building has been evacuated.

The fire broke out just after 1:00 PM and was scaled up to a “very large fire” within two minutes. According to the spokesperson, this was done because the fire department “needs many hands.”

Demolition work has been carried out on a structure on the roof to create an opening and continue extinguishing the fire. Around 3:11 PM, the fire was under control.

The fire was caused by work on the roof. The fire remained limited to the structure on the roof. “It is now being looked at how people can gradually return inside,” says the safety board.

The provincial representatives are present at the provincial house on Wednesday for meetings. It is unclear whether the fire will affect this. The traffic control center, from which provincial bridges and locks are operated, is also located in the provincial house.
