Feyenoord surprises fans on Open Day with presentation Flank player Borges

Gonçalo Borges

Feyenoord signed Gonçalo Borges on Sunday. The winger comes from FC Porto and signs a contract until mid-2029 at De Kuip. The transfer was completed just in time so that he could be presented directly on the open day.

The 24-year-old winger stepped out of the helicopter in De Kuip on Sunday, which traditionally presents the new players on the open day every year. Because his transfer was only completed at the very last moment, the other Feyenoord players also did not yet know that Borges had actually been signed.

Borges, who has played most of his matches as a right winger but can also play on the left wing, was already of interest to Feyenoord this winter. The transfer did not materialize then.

Borges played 88 official matches for FC Porto. In those, he scored twice and provided nine assists. Earlier this month, he also played with FC Porto at the Club World Cup in the United States.

After Gaoussou Diarra (Istanbulspor), Sem Steijn (FC Twente) and Luciano Valente (FC Groningen), Borges is the fourth new player to join Feyenoord. Reportedly, the Portuguese preferred Feyenoord over the Brazilian Botafogo.

Feyenoord starts the Eredivisie season on Saturday, August 9 with a home match against NAC.
