FC Groningen has started an investigation into the fireworks incident during the derby of the North. The match against SC Heerenveen (2-1 victory) had to be stopped twice, much to the disappointment of the club.
Supporters of FC Groningen stopped fireworks just before the kick -off. Due to the atmosphere action and the smoke that was released, it was decided to postpone the kick -off for fifteen minutes.
“Many people enjoyed the supporters campaign, but the lighting of fireworks does not fit in with that. That is absolutely unacceptable and forbidden,” FC Groningen writes in a statement on Tuesday.

“We have three people to identify three people around the incident with the drinking cups,” says FC Groningen. “These people have been deported to the stadium and the club will invite them for an interview. We reject the throwing of objects.”
