Due to a malfunction in a railway tunnel that occurred on Friday evening, there will be no trains running between Rotterdam and Breda, and between Rotterdam and Dordrecht, throughout Monday. NS anticipates that the problems will persist until 2:00 AM on Tuesday.
Due to a power outage, no trains could pass through the Willemsspoortunnel between Rotterdam Centraal and Rotterdam Zuid stations throughout the weekend. Power has now been restored to the tunnel, but ProRail is still testing the safety systems.
These systems failed during the power outage. This includes gas and fire detectors, emergency exit lighting, and communication systems.
The railway tunnel is very important for both domestic and international train traffic from Rotterdam to the south. Therefore, trains must take a detour.
The Eurostar to Paris and London is currently detouring via Utrecht and Den Bosch. The Eurocity and Eurocity Direct to Brussels depart from Breda instead of Rotterdam. Passengers to Brussels must travel to Breda themselves. This is possible from Rotterdam via Utrecht Centraal and Den Bosch.
Those traveling from Rotterdam Centraal to Dordrecht must take a bus to Rotterdam Zuid station. Trains to Dordrecht do run from there.
