Economy is growing stronger than expected in the first three months of 2025

The Dutch economy grew by 0.4 percent in the first three months of this year compared to the last months of last year. This is reported by statistics agency CBS in a new calculation, which is slightly higher than the preliminary estimate.

In the first estimate, the growth was 0.1 percent. The first calculation, thirty days after the end of a quarter, is made based on the information then available. After that, more information often becomes available. For example, about construction, hospitality and the government.

The second calculation shows that the economy grew 0.3 percentage points more than previously thought. This is mainly due to households, who spent more in the first quarter of 2025. Government consumption also contributed to the growth.

Compared to a year earlier, the economy grew by 2.2 percent in the first quarter. According to the first calculation, it was 2 percent. The trade balance and government consumption contributed the most to the growth.
