In a Spanish mountain range, the body of a 70-year-old Dutchman was found on Tuesday evening. It is not known how the man died.
According to local media, the man had started a descent in the mountains of Cantabria around noon after going up with a cable car. When he did not return, his travel partner raised the alarm. The fire department searched for the hiker together with rescuers.
The search continued in vain until sunset, using a helicopter, among other things. A team of firefighters and a special unit of the Guardia Civil searched along the steep slope with flashlights. The search was hampered by cliffs and scrub.
The man’s body was found about ten meters below a mountain path between the scrub, carried 900 meters uphill and handed over to the authorities. No information has been released about the cause of death.
