Driver collision Los Angeles shot, shooter on the run

The person who drove into a group of people in Los Angeles on Saturday was pulled from his car by bystanders and shot. That’s according to American media reports. The shooter is still at large. The driver was reportedly kicked out of a club earlier in the evening.

After driving into the crowd, the driver was dragged from his car by bystanders. He was physically assaulted and then shot by a man. The driver sustained a gunshot wound, ABC News reports based on local police information.

Several eyewitnesses told police that the driver had previously been kicked out of a club for being “drunk and annoying,” a police source told the Los Angeles Times. It is still unclear exactly what happened.

The incident took place on Friday night to Saturday around 2:00 AM (local time) on Santa Monica Boulevard, a busy street. The car hit, among other things, a taco stand and visitors queuing at a popular nightclub. Thirty people were injured, seven of them seriously.

Mayor Karen Bass calls the incident “a heartbreaking tragedy.” She thanks the more than one hundred firefighters and police officers present for their efforts.
