Désiré Doué beamed from ear to ear on Saturday after his starring role in the Champions League final won by Paris Saint-Germain. The youngster was named man of the match and ended up in a special list.
Doué scored twice in the final against Internazionale and also provided an assist. It was therefore not entirely surprising that he was chosen by UEFA as Man of the Match.
He joined a special list of players who had previously been named Man of the Match in a Champions League final. This century, Cristiano Ronaldo (2017), Lionel Messi (2011) and Zinédine Zidane (2002) preceded him, among others.
“I have no words for it. This is just unbelievable for me. It’s a dream come true, I’m so happy,” said the nineteen-year-old Frenchman. “And this is just the beginning.”
Doué became only the third teenager to score in a Champions League final. Patrick Kluivert did so in 1995 for Ajax and the Brazilian Carlos Alberto scored in 2004 for FC Porto.
Doué did not remain the last teenager with a goal in a Champions League final for long. Later in the match, his peer Senny Mayulu made it 5-0. Kluivert was eighteen years old in 1995 and remains the youngest goal scorer ever in a Champions League final.
