Paul Elstak ran into financial trouble in the mid-1990s and had to live on a minimal income. The DJ of happy hardcore hits like Rainbow in the Sky and Luv u more was in debt.
After his great successes, Elstak’s performances declined in the late 1990s, debts piled up, and his administration turned out to be a mess. “I didn’t know anything about administration,” Elstak told Rijnmond NOW. “I had some work, but it wasn’t much. I thought it was a real disgrace.”
Furthermore, Elstak’s success impacted his family life. “When you are successful, you are so busy with your work that the attention for your children suffers a bit,” he said.
The 59-year-old Elstak talked about it with his children and a biographer, who recorded the story in Life is Like A Dance, Elstak’s second biography. He calls the conversations valuable. “I had the idea that they were angrier at me than they were then, but there was the feeling of loss. I could have been there more often.”
Later this year, Elstak will celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Rainbow in the Sky with two shows, including a special edition for parents and children.
