Diving Dutch people provide large and unnecessary search on Como

Two Dutch tourists caused great confusion and a large search this weekend by diving off a ferry on Lake Como. It turned out to be unnecessary, much to the annoyance of the emergency services.

Italian media such as la Repubblica report that a 23-year-old and a 26-year-old Dutchman suddenly dived into the lake from a motorboat in the afternoon. After that, they apparently swam towards the shore near Laglio, the home of Villa Oleandra, the summer residence of George and Amal Clooney.

The crew and passengers of the motorboat did not know what was going on and whether the two could reach the shore. The authorities then started a search. It yielded nothing and was only stopped in the evening when eyewitnesses saw the two walking in Laglio.

The police later found them at a campsite. They are accused of disrupting public services.
