Dirk Kuijt is niet langer de trainer van degradant Beerschot. De Belgische club meldt vrijdag dat de samenwerking niet wordt verlengd na een teleurstellend seizoen.
Kuijt nam begin 2024 het stokje over van Andreas Wieland. De oud-aanvaller leidde het team naar de titel op het tweede niveau. Afgelopen seizoen verliep minder succesvol. Beerschot werd hekkensluiter en degradeerde uit de Jupiler Pro League.
Beerschot bedankt de 44-jarige Kuijt voor zijn inzet en positieve bijdrage. “Zijn energie en betrokkenheid waren een bron van inspiratie binnen de spelersgroep”, schrijft Beerschot. De club maakt later op de vrijdag de opvolger van Kuijt bekend.
Kuijt nam in mei al een voorschot op een vertrek. “Ik heb enkele maanden geleden al voor mezelf uitgemaakt dat ik op deze manier niet verder kan en wil”, zei Kuijt tegen Het Laatste Nieuws. “De omstandigheden waarin we dit seizoen moesten werken, waren zeer lastig.”
Kuijt had nog amper contact met de Saoedische clubeigenaar Abdullah Bin Mosaad na zijn kritiek op de verkoop van zijn beste speler Thibaud Verlinden in februari. Bovendien klaagde de oud-international onder meer over het gebrek aan een geschikt trainingsveld.

Kuijt took over from Andreas Wieland at the beginning of 2024. The former attacker led the team to the title at the second level. Last season was less successful. Beerschot finished at the bottom and was relegated from the Jupiler Pro League.
Beerschot thanks the 44-year-old Kuijt for his efforts and positive contribution. “His energy and commitment were a source of inspiration within the group of players,” Beerschot writes. The club will announce Kuijt’s successor later on Friday.
Kuijt already anticipated a departure in May. “I already decided for myself a few months ago that I cannot and do not want to continue in this way,” Kuijt told Het Laatste Nieuws. “The circumstances in which we had to work this season were very difficult.”
Kuijt had hardly any contact with the Saudi club owner Abdullah Bin Mosaad after his criticism of the sale of his best player Thibaud Verlinden in February. In addition, the former international complained about the lack of a suitable training field, among other things.
