Curaçao remained stuck at a 0-0 draw against El Salvador on Tuesday. It was the first match at the Gold Cup for the team of coach Dick Advocaat.
Leandro Bacuna was close to a goal for Curaçao in the thirteenth minute, which is nine places lower than El Salvador in the FIFA rankings (90th to 81st). The FC Groningen player was quick when the keeper let the ball slip from his hands, but he recovered with a good save on Bacuna’s rebound.
In the remainder of the first half, El Salvador mainly got chances. The Central American country failed to score, after which Curaçao took the initiative again in the second half. Jearl Margaritha came closest to a goal: he hit the crossbar.
The Curaçao of Advocaat still has some work to do. The team will continue the Gold Cup on Sunday with a match against Canada, which won its first match 6-0 against Honduras.
