Defending champion Alcaraz to quarterfinals Wimbledon after false start against Rublev

Carlos Alcaraz reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon on Sunday. The Spanish defending champion won with some difficulty against Andrey Rublev at the Grand Slam tournament in London.

This tournament has not been easy for Alcaraz. The Spanish number two in the world rankings had a rough start against Rublev (ATP-14). He fell behind 1-4 and then lost the set via a tiebreak.

The 22-year-old Alcaraz then played better on the grass of the center court. He did not concede a single service game and broke Rublev once in each of the following three sets. After 2 hours and 47 minutes, the score was 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4.

Thus, two-time Wimbledon winner Alcaraz recorded another relatively difficult victory. In the first round, he played a five-setter against Fabio Fognini. In his third-round match against Jan-Lennard Struff, Alcaraz needed four sets.

In the quarterfinals, Alcaraz will face Cameron Norrie (ATP-61). The British home favorite won earlier in the day in a thriller against the Chilean service cannon Nicolás Jarry: 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (7), 6-7 (5) and 6-3. Alcaraz and Norrie will meet on Tuesday.
