Defending champion Alcaraz reaches eighth finals Wimbledon with convincing victory

Carlos Alcaraz extended his winning streak at Wimbledon on Friday. The Spanish defending champion was too strong for German Jan-Lennard Struff in four sets in the third round: 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4.

The 22-year-old Alcaraz was quickly done with the thirteen-year-older Struff (ATP-125) in the first set, which made a simple victory for the Spaniard seem likely. But Struff recovered and was the best in the second act.

Alcaraz did not get discouraged, raised his level and won the third and fourth sets. The world number two has now reached the fourth round at Wimbledon for the fourth year in a row.

Alcaraz’s last defeat on the grass in London was in 2022. Then he lost in the fourth round to Jannik Sinner. In both 2023 and 2024, Alcaraz won the Grand Slam tournament by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.

Alcaraz will play against Andrey Rublev in the eighth finals. The Russian number fourteen in the world defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in three sets.
