Corinthians promises to comply with Memphis Contract: 'There are no problems'

Corinthians has promised Memphis Depay that they will honor their contract. The forward was reportedly in conflict with the Brazilian club due to overdue payments, but chairman Osmar Stabile emphasizes that everything is going according to the agreements.

Memphis recently missed a training session because he reportedly had yet to receive his salary. Sporting director Fabinho Soldado reacted angrily. “We do not tolerate behavior that is not appropriate for a professional athlete. But we also listened to the player’s explanation.”

According to acting chairman Stabile, the tension between Corinthians and the 31-year-old Memphis has now eased. “There are no problems,” Stabile told Brazilian media on Monday. “There is a contract and we will honor it. It cannot be otherwise.”

“Everything is in order regarding salary and image rights. We pay the bonuses in installments and not late. We comply with everything that has been agreed,” said the chairman, who denies that they had discussed terminating the contract of high earner Memphis.

“We are not considering that and it has not been discussed further. The only thing we have discussed with Memphis is properly fulfilling the contract,” Stabile said. “Both Memphis and Corinthians are honoring the agreements.”

Corinthians is eleventh in the Brazilian competition and is fifteen points behind leader Flamengo. Memphis scored four goals in twelve league matches this season. The Oranje international is under contract with the club from São Paulo until the end of 2026.
