Quincy Promes wants to be able to return to the Netherlands. The 33-year-old footballer wants to attend the hearings in the criminal cases against him, among other things. But Promes only wants this on the condition that he is not arrested.
This is confirmed by his lawyer Cem Polat to news agency ANP after reports from RTL Boulevard. The program interviewed the footballer in Dubai. The request must be submitted on Tuesday to the Amsterdam Court of Appeal, where a hearing will be held in the case against Promes.
“I’m not going to lie about missing the Netherlands very much and wanting to come back. It is also often said that I am on the run, but I have been trying to contact the justice system for some time to resolve it,” the footballer says in an interview with RTL Boulevard.
The former player of the Dutch national team, Sevilla, and Ajax still has to serve two prison sentences in the Netherlands: up to eighteen months for stabbing his cousin and six years for his involvement in cocaine smuggling.
Promes has appealed in both cases, but the Amsterdam court ordered his arrest in the drug trafficking conviction. The fifty-time Oranje international avoided that sentence by staying in Russia. Promes was then in his second period at Spartak Moscow.
The convicted attacker has been under contract with Dubai United, a club on the second level of the United Arab Emirates, since September 2024.
