At the border between Ter Apel and the German Rütenbrock, a group of citizens performed ‘border controls’ on Saturday evening. The police confirm this to NU.nl after reporting by RTV Noord . The group has removed and checked an unknown number of cars.
According to RTV Noord, the controls of vehicles for the presence of asylum seekers were first on the German side of the border. The group stopped a van there, but that turned out to be the German police. They sent them to the Dutch side of the border. In the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant, the promotion there has been continued for some time.
The Northern Netherlands police told NU.nl that agents went to the scene after a report. The group was addressed, but no criminal offenses were found on the spot. However, those present would have had the instruction not to go on the road. Furthermore, the police do not want to respond to content.
Participants in the promotion tell the AD that they are angry about the in their eyes inadequate Dutch border controls. In Germany, it would be much stricter controlled on the border.
Photos show that the group, just like the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, is wearing reflective clothing and yellow vests. They also have a lamp with them that is comparable to the copy used by the police for road controls.
Insufficient information about photos
The police spokesman is familiar with those photos, but says that there is insufficient known about the images. As a result, it cannot be established that the group criminal offenses have committed, as it occurs as Marechaussee. A car may not just be investigated.
A citizen arrest is allowed, incidentally, when you caught someone in the act in a crime. This is allowed on the basis of Article 53 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The purpose of that arrest is that you wait until the police arrive. A certain degree of coercion and violence is permitted. But that must be in proportion to the offense.
