Changeable summer weather is 'typically Dutch' and keeps on

Does the changeable weather of the last few days belong to a typical Dutch summer? “We are inclined to forget it, but we have already had very hot summer weather this year,” says meteorologist Floris Lafeber van Weerplaza to Nu.nl.

It is precisely this combination of warmth and the changeable weather of the past days that is typical of the Netherlands.

The high temperatures came early in the year: already in June. It was the second warmest year since the start of the measurements. The school holidays had not yet started. “Now that people with changeable weather are free, it seems to be disappointing the entire summer. That’s just not right.”

For the time being we are not yet rid of the changeable weather. That is due to the wind direction. “We are now dealing with a wind from the sea,” explains Lafeber. That air is relatively cool and stays for a while.

In addition, it remains rainy. That is less nice for people who want to sunbathe on the stand, but good for nature, the meteorologist emphasizes.

It may be warmer and dryer again in the second half of August. That is because the wind direction then seems to change. Lafeber: “But how hot it gets and how long that will take is not yet to be said.”
