The trophy for the winner of the Women’s Champions League was stolen last weekend from the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon. The Portuguese police have now recovered the trophy.
The theft was committed last Saturday during the match between Sporting CP and Vitória S.C. (2-0). While a big party erupted on the field because Sporting prolonged the national title, the thieves saw their chance to break through a fence and enter the stadium.
They stole several items from UEFA, including the cup for the winner of the Champions League. The theft was discovered on Sunday morning. The police have now recovered the trophy and have so far identified thirteen suspects.
The Estádio José Alvalade will be the scene of the Champions League final from 6:00 PM on Saturday. Arsenal will face FC Barcelona in it.
The final has a Dutch touch. Renée Slegers is at the helm at Arsenal, where Orange internationals Daphne van Domselaar and Victoria Pelova play. Esmee Brugts hopes to win with Barça for the second year in a row.
