Camping in Europe is becoming more expensive, but rise in the Netherlands is not too bad

Camping in the Netherlands was not much more expensive last year. Dutch campsite owners increased their prices by 5 percent in 2024. In the rest of Europe, camping became about 8 percent more expensive.

A group of four people pays an average of about 36 euros for an overnight stay at a Dutch campsite, according to figures from campsite specialist ACSI. That price is slightly above the European average of 35.80 euros.

In 2023, a camping night in Europe still cost an average of 33.22 euros. Since then, Croatian campsites in particular have become considerably more expensive. Last year, that price rose to 74 euros. In 2023, an overnight stay there cost an average of around 50 euros.

“Croatia, like Slovenia, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for European campers,” says ACSI director Ramon van Reine.

In Norway, the average price rose even faster. In one year, the average rose from 30.69 to 53.90 euros.

Italian campsites are relatively expensive

Until 2023, you paid by far the most at Italian campsites. “But they are now feeling the competition in surrounding countries,” says Van Reine. As a result, the average overnight price in Italy fell by almost 6 percent last year.

Nevertheless, Italian campsites are still quite expensive. With an average price of 55.64 euros, the country is in fourth place on the European ranking.

Cheapest campsites in Eastern Europe

Prices in neighboring countries Germany and Belgium and the popular France are about the same as in the Netherlands. Spanish, Austrian and Danish campsites are creeping towards 50 euros per night.

In Eastern European countries, such as Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the campsites are the cheapest. There, prices are around 20 euros per night.
