Many popular holiday destinations in Europe are experiencing extreme weather conditions this summer. For example, Southern European countries are currently suffering from another heat wave. Are you adjusting your vacation plans to avoid the ever-increasing heat (or other extreme weather)?
For example, Spain is currently experiencing the second heat wave of this summer. In the popular holiday resort of Seville, it can reach as high as 42 degrees: about 5 to 10 degrees warmer than normal. In Portugal, a red alert has even been issued due to the heat, and there is a threat of forest fires.
In the south of France and Italy, the temperature will also be between 35 and 40 degrees this week and next. In the latter country, it was very stormy earlier. Heavy rainfall fell in both the north of Italy and in the Alps, causing holidays to literally fall through for some tourists.
The ANWB previously told NU.nl that it is noticeable that people are increasingly avoiding areas around the Mediterranean in the summer because of the heat. Have you also adjusted your vacation plans this year due to the changing climate and higher temperatures? We would like to hear your story and what alternative travel plans you have chosen.
