Build battery factory Hyundai in US shut down after raid immigration service

The construction of a car battery factory from Hyundai and LG Energy Solution in the United States has been temporarily stopped. The reason is a raid from the American immigration service in which hundreds of employees were arrested.

The factory in the US state of Georgia is being built by a Hyundai joint venture and the also South Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution. A spokesperson says that the company fully cooperates in the investigation of the authorities.

The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the American immigration service Ice has detained several South Koreans in Georgia. The Government in Seoel has also announced the American embassy in South Korea to be concerned and to regret the incident.

“The economic activities of our investors and the rights and legitimate interests of our citizens may not be wrongly violated in the context of American law enforcement,” said a spokesperson for the Asian country.

According to Korean media, around thirty South Korean citizens would have been arrested. The US Department of the Interior Security said that it is currently investigating whether rules were violated during the employment of staff.
