The British police started an investigation on Monday into the performances of the British punk duo Bob Vylan and the Irish rap group Kneecap at Glastonbury last Saturday. It is being investigated whether the comments made during both performances are punishable.
Bob Vylan singer Bobby Vylan, among other things, shouted: “Death to the Israeli army.” There was a lot of commotion and the organization of the Glastonbury festival announced that they were shocked. The police of Avon and Somerset, where Glastonbury takes place, have appointed a detective after viewing the images to further investigate the statements.
Vylan has already indicated that he will not retract the statements he made during his performance on Saturday. “I said what I wanted to say,” the singer writes on Instagram in response to the commotion.
The BBC announced on Monday afternoon that it regretted that the livestream of Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury performance was not interrupted on Saturday. “The team was dealing with a live situation, but in retrospect we should have stopped the stream during the performance,” the broadcaster wrote in a statement. “We regret that this did not happen.”
Earlier on Saturday, it was decided not to broadcast Kneecap’s Glastonbury performance. During the festival, the group showed sympathy for a recently banned pro-Palestinian action group.
