Schansspringster Sara Marita Kramer has suddenly put an end to her career before the Winter Olympics. The 23-year-old born Apeldoornse played for Austria.
Kramer writes in a statement on Instagram that she has been struggling with the existence of a Schanspringster for some time. She missed the 2022 Olympic Games due to a coronabes infection. That came harder to her than expected.
“The joy has disappeared and without joy even the most beautiful story loses its light,” she writes. “I thought I inspired people by continuing, by never giving up. But the reality is: I was not loyal to myself.”
“How can I inspire others if I live a version of a dream that is no longer mine? I have always been proud of being someone who never gives up. That makes this decision so damn difficult. I didn’t want to end up. But what is a medal worth without joy?”
Kramer was one of the best ramps in the world for years. She won twenty games in the World Cup between January 2020 and December 2022 and won the World Cup classification in 2022. She also won gold and silver in a World Cup, although it was both in a country competition.
