The bodies of a father and his six-year-old son were found on Saturday in the Eibsee, a lake in the German state of Bavaria, after being missing for a week. The child had fallen from the pedal boat, after which his father jumped into the lake to save him.
That went wrong. Both the 33-year-old father and his son had been missing ever since.
On the day of the accident, about seventy rescue workers were on site. Specially trained divers, police dogs and a helicopter were also deployed. But the emergency services failed to find them.
The bodies were recovered a week later at a depth of 24 meters, writes the German medium Der Spiegel.
The 34-year-old mother of the deceased child and her four-year-old daughter were also on the pedal boat. According to the police, the family comes from Bavaria, a state in southern Germany.
