The Dutch BMX rider Judy Baauw won bronze at the World Championships in Copenhagen on Sunday. Laura Smulders and Mitchel Schotman missed out on a medal in the finals.
The 31-year-old Baauw had a good start and quickly rode into third place. The veteran already possessed a silver (2021) and bronze (2018) World Championship medal.
The British Bethany Shriver, who had already won the world title in 2021 and 2023, again took the gold. The Australian reigning Olympic champion Saya Sakakibara came second.
Laura Smulders, the world champion of 2018, finished seventh. Manon Veenstra, who took silver at the Paris Olympics, and Merel Smulders were eliminated in the semi-finals.
Later in the day, Schotman was unable to win a medal in the men’s event. The 29-year-old Dutchman finished seventh in the final. The world title went to Frenchman Arthur Pilard.
Former world champion Niek Kimmann was eliminated in the quarter-finals. He rode his first international title tournament after an inflamed heart muscle cost him participation in the Paris Olympics last year. Kimmann stated on Saturday that regardless of the result, he was happy with his return.
