Jamal Ben Saddik is heavily disappointed that Glory 100 was already on Saturday after a few minutes. The public favorite, who sustained an injury to his shin in Ahoy on Saturday evening, showed an understanding of the referee and doctor’s decision.
“It is a huge disappointment. If you want to continue a fighter, I was still on my legs,” Ben Saddik said she had stopped half an hour after the fight. He spoke to the press with a packed right lower leg.
“As a fighter you even want to go on one leg. But I certainly respect the decision. The doctor does his job and knows better than me. It’s just good that we have doctors along the ring,” said one of the attractions of Glory 100.
Yet Ben Saddik knew that he did not even realize his injury himself. “I didn’t understand why I was called to the corner,” he said. “I could not give the fans what they came for. And that is disappointing.”
The early exit could ensure that Ben Saddik is not designated for the next fight with Rico Verhoeven, was allowed to defend his world title later in the evening. Verhoeven will meet the Russian Artem Vakhitov late in the evening.
Yet Ben Saddik was not at all concerned with that, he said. “At the moment I am only thinking about my recovery. I am now going to the hospital, attach and then recover.”
The 34-year-old Ben Saddik was one of the favorites for the title in the Last Heavyweight Standing, a tournament for 32 kickboxers.
