The Belgian writer Griet Op de Beeck will present Zomergasten this year. The first episode of the VPRO program will be broadcast in the last week of July, the broadcaster announced on Tuesday.
“I think it is an insane honor to be able to present a program with such a track record,” says the 51-year-old Op de Beeck in a statement.
“I believe it has never been more important than now: taking the time, going into depth, seeking nuance, unraveling complexities, allowing surprise, stimulating the social conversation – even more than the debate – broadening our world and creating proximity.”
With more than a million books sold, Op de Beeck is one of the best-selling Dutch-language writers. Her work has been translated into thirteen languages. Her books Vele hemels boven de zevende and Kom hier dat ik u kus were filmed.
Last year, Zomergasten was presented each episode by a former presenter. Originally, Adriaan van Dis was to present the series, but he had to cancel due to his health. Op de Beeck is the eighteenth presenter of Zomergasten.
Zomergasten is a three-hour live interview program in which guests from various fields can compile their ultimate evening of television. They motivate their choices in conversation with the presenter.
