Bayern Munich won the first group match at the Club World Cup against Auckland City by double digits on Sunday: 10-0. Substitute Jamal Musiala was important for the Germans with a hat-trick. Paris Saint-Germain won 4-0 against Atlético Madrid.
It was clear in advance that Bayern would not have a difficult time against Auckland City. Auckland won the Champions League of Oceania this season, allowing them to participate in the Club World Cup. The team of coach Albert Riera consists of amateurs who train three times a week and work as school teachers or sales managers in daily life.
The difference in salary was also visible on the field in Cincinnati, as the New Zealanders only managed one shot towards Manuel Neuer’s goal. Auckland also did not get beyond 28 percent ball possession against the German champions.
In the first half, the danger came from Bayern’s flanks. Kingsley Coman scored the opening goal within six minutes and was responsible for the 4-0. The Frenchman also gave the assist for the 2-0 by Sacha Boey. Michael Olise was also responsible for two goals (3-0 and 6-0) and one assist: the 5-0 by Thomas Müller.
After the break, Bayern initially took their foot off the gas, until Musiala came on as a substitute after an hour. The midfielder scored three times within twenty minutes, after which Müller provided the final score with the 10-0. In the group stage, both teams will also face Boca Juniors and Benfica.
PSG wins first match after CL final
PSG also won its first group match at the World Cup. The French were 4-0 too strong for Atlético. It was the first match for Luis Enrique’s team after winning the Champions League final against Internazionale.
PSG already made the difference against the Madrid team before half-time. Fabian Ruíz gave the French the lead within twenty minutes. In injury time of the first half, Vitinha doubled the lead. Kvicha Kvaratskhelia provided the assist for both goals.
After the break, Kvaratskhelia was close to the 3-0. His shot went against the crossbar via the hand of Atlético goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Ten minutes later, Atlético seemed to come back into the match, but Julian Alvarez’s goal was disallowed after intervention from VAR.
Atlético needed many fouls to stop the French. The Madrid team received seven yellow cards, including two for Clement Lenglet who was sent off the field. After the red card for Lenglet, PSG further distanced themselves from Atlético. Substitutes Senny Mayulu and Kang-In Lee (penalty) completed the party for the Parisians.
Botafogo and Seattle Sounders are the other teams in the group of PSG and Atlético. Both teams will meet tonight (Dutch time) in Seattle. PSG and Atlético will be back in action on Friday.
