Autobiography Former Spanish king Juan Carlos will be released in November

The autobiography of former Spanish King Juan Carlos will be released this fall. The book, titled Reconciliation, will be published on November 12.

The 87-year-old Juan Carlos wrote his memoirs with the help of French writer Laurence Debray. The former head of state and father of current King Felipe announced last year that he was working on a book about his life.

In the book, Juan Carlos mentions “his mistakes and wrong decisions,” the announcement said Monday. “He hides nothing and speaks frankly, as a person who knows he doesn’t have much time left and would rather confess than lie.”

Juan Carlos, who has been married to Sophia since 1962, has been the subject of scandals several times regarding bribery and extramarital escapades, for example. The former king was also accused of tax fraud, but the court ruled a month ago that there was “no basis” for prosecution.

In 2014, Juan Carlos abdicated the throne and gave his son Felipe the space to shape his kingship. The former king left unannounced for the United Arab Emirates in the summer of 2020. Since 2022, he has occasionally returned to Spain to participate in sailing competitions.
